South Africa beats New Zealand on day one of warm-up matches

By Editor

South Africa enjoyed a promising hit-out against New Zealand in the lead up to the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup 2012, winning by six wickets at St Lucia courtesy of a blistering run-chase.

New Zealand, batting first, scored 184 for eight but had precious few answers as South Africa's left-handed opening batsman and wicket-keeper Quenton de Kock blasted 80 from 65 balls to launch the chase.

With de Kock, who has played 12 first-class games for Gauteng, retiring at 80 to give other teammates a bat, South Africa raced to 185 for four in the 30th over to claim a tidy victory.

New Zealand left-arm spinner Theo van Woerkom picked up two wickets.
