Tunisia, Nigeria and Angola come up short in London

By Leslie Koroma

The Tunisians came into the Game against the US Dream team hoping to at least come out on the end of the game with a decent score and not be humiliated and they came close to achieving their desire as they tried their hardest to score63 points against the USA plus having Ben Romdhane their power forward scoring the Game high of 22 points. The USA dream team on the other hand scored 110 points and the leading scorers were Kevin Love and Carmelo Anthony both with 16 points apiece.  When the game ended Tunisian players were seen getting autographs from Kobe Bryant and other members of the US squad. Next up for the Tunisians are the Argentineans.

Nigeria were also defeated by Lithuania   72 - 53 with Ike Diogu and Al Farouk Aminu both scoring 12 points apiece as the highest scorers. The Lithuanians who are a very highly disciplined squad and boasts of a few NBA stars themselves were very efficient against the first time Nigerian Olympic Squad as Darius Songaila scored 12 and Linas Kleiza added 13 points as the game's highest scorer, both players are in the NBA . Nigeria's path to the next level will get tougher on their next go around as they face the US dream team on Thursday August 2nd.

Africa's only women's basketball team in the Olympics Angola has not have it easy either as they were again defeated, this time by the US women's squad with a very lopsided score of 38 - 90. This follows their opener loss to Turkey 72 - 50. For all intent and purpose Angola is heading home after the first round. They have to be applauded however as the only women basketball team to make it from Africa.
