By Alie Bittar

Malian international Modibo Maiga in photo has joined West Ham on a four year deal. The 24 year old Malian from French club Sochaux was signed for a reported £5m.

He will have to compete with Carlton Cole, Nicky Maynard, Ricardo Vaz Te and Sam Baldock for a place in the Hammers' attack.

African Sports TV understands that Modibo has a contract option for a further two years.

"I know West Ham is a big club in England and I'm really looking forward to representing them," he said.

Maiga scored 24 goals in 52 games for Sochaux after joining them from Le Mans in July 2010.

Maiga is West Ham's fifth summer signing after Mohamed Diame, George McCartney, Jussi Jaaskelainen and Stephen Henderson
